“Add Structures to Your Plein Air Landscape” with Nancie King Mertz

Nancie King Mertz is an award-winning painter and much sought after workshop instructor who paints and offers workshops in locations throughout the US and abroad. We are very excited to have her on Cape Cod!

If you’re not able to take Nancie’s class at IAPS, here’s your chance to take her workshop on beautiful Cape Cod.

There will be two 2-day workshops 9 am - 4 pm:
July 16-17 (Tues-Wed)      * * * Register * * *

July 18-19 (Thurs-Fri)       * * * Register * * *

Cost: PPSCC members $375, $425 for non-members

Class size will not exceed 17 students.

In each 2-day workshop we will focus on street scenes, boats, harbors and bridges in the beautiful Cape Cod area. We also have a great indoor studio space nearby should weather not cooperate. Structures can sometimes be intimidating when working en plein air! Nancie's step by step process will enable you to edit, speed-up and free-up your work!

One or two (or more!) paintings will be completed each day, depending on your comfort level.  Individual attention is stressed in this workshop rather than group lecture, helping you to get the drawing right. Short demos (1-2 hrs) will be offered throughout the workshop to help clarify techniques, as needed.

The supply list & tips for preparing for the workshop can be found here.

"Nancie’s workshop was personally rewarding for me as it brought the creative energy back that I had lost due to a couple of major life changes. It's good to be energized & excited again" —Rita

"Your instruction was "easy" to try, and absorb.  Not easy to implement always, but simple in steps. Then you relied on individual help to get us through our perspective, value and cool/warm challenges!  Please take the word "easy" as a compliment:  you didn't overwhelm us verbally with everything you know, but offered just enough information that we wanted to try something totally new."  —Ellyn

3-day workshop

Cost: PPSCC members $375, $425 for non-members

The focus of this three-day workshop will be composition, design and expressive mark making.  Fun, light-hearted exercises will help us discover the exciting balance between the “big three” – shape, value and color.  Demonstrations will be given followed by individual instruction tailored to participants needs.

“When I paint, I am interested in bold color, energetic line, and strong composition to convey a powerful image filled with atmosphere and light. I enjoy the contrast between the spirited execution of a painting and the serenity and peacefulness of the scene. Clear brush and pastel strokes have become an important aspect of my work and bring vitality and movement to the painting.”  —Deb Quinn Munson
